The Topkapi Palace Museum

The Topkapı Palace is the witness of the rise of the Ottoman Empire. As the administrative center of the empire, it is at the tip of the Historical Peninsula and is in a position dominating the Marmara Sea, the Bosporus, and the Golden Horn. It was built on a large area of 70 acres, consisting of gardens, mansions, harem room, kitchen, privy stables, weapons and treasure rooms.

The construction of the Topkapi Palace, which was started in 1460 upon the request of Fatih Sultan Mehmed after the conquest of Istanbul in 1453, was completed in 1478. The Topkapi Palace, which was not built with all its annexes at once, expanded with the additions until the 19th century. The palace was formed around three main courtyards and three monumental gates. The Topkapı Palace, which has the distinction of being the first museum of the Republic, is one of the largest palace-museums in the world with its structures, architecture, and rich collection.
